Kinja'd!!!

Got rear ended a bit while I was at a stop sign today.Luckily it’s not bad at all and I will most likely just need a rear bumper possibly a bumper beam and the foam bit as well. Everyone is fine and the guys 13 Altima was a bit more worse off than mine.

I broke the rear hatch handle the other day and am still hunting down some electrical issues. It sure would be nice if I could do that when it’s not 1.Dark when I get off work 2.Cold as hell

Was so close to asking my insurance person if they knew what a Camry dent was to describe the damage

My dad’s old 2003 2.5RS wagon had a nice puncture in the rear bumper from where my mom backed it into a rock wall at my friends house.

I love it. Even when it shits the bed I might just throw it in storage and find another. Such a fun car with fairly minor mods

Ej25s and 5MTs can be had rather cheaply.

I’ve already replaced the engine in it once, the heads were toast so we had to find a junkyard engine that somehow had 80ish k miles on it. Pretty decent price all in with the shop doing it

well good sir, lets put on our optimism hats.

replacong a bumper is childs play. take the insurance payout, live with the unsightly bumper until you find a gpod condition used one for cheap, replace and pocket your savings.

or, if you tend to it quickly (after the insurance assessor has stopped by) you may be able to pop that dent by softening the bumper with boiling water or a heat gun. pocketing even more money

I was thinking about that and honestly wasn’t sure how it worked as this is my first time getting wrecked in to. I am going through the other persons insurance and it should be assessed in the next few days. Ideally I would like to not have to go through a shop.

I have certainly popped out dents before with the hot water method and done much more than replacing bumpers

Just tell them you want to be paid out for it and you will take care if fixing it on your own. You may want to get your own estimate to be sure their insurance company isn’t trying to scam you. Your own policy might have some clause about who fixes it and cash payouts, but someone else’s policy clauses can’t be forced on you.

typically the insurance company will assess it themselves, or ask you to take it to a shop they recomment to have it assessed.

but you are not obligated to get it repaired by them. but you can bet the shop will not make it sound that way. the shop will be playing the samw game. they will assess for oem parts and use replicas, and assess for reasonable hours of labour and bust ass to do it in less time. they pocket the insurance check then.

Glad I decided to go through the other guys insurance! I’ll double check the price of a bumper and beam to see what they end up with
